A graduate of the Ponca Military Academy Don Mellon Sr. Ponca Cadet, 1960-1966, is the owner and operator of 17 McDonald's in West Valley Phoenix, Ariz. Mellon was in Ponca City recently for the PMA reunion.
Mellon says, "PMA was a life changing experience for me. The life journey has been very rewarding in so many ways. Life is an endurance run and we all have many opportunities. Our best asset is our attitude in Life. Do my best that is all I can do. PMA has influenced the way I have lived my entire life.
"I learned from Col. Cox and Captain Moore so much about how our abilities are unlimited ... just apply yourself. Discipline yourself to get it done.
"I learned at PMA to set goals, have a written plan and work your plan. PMA taught me to be organized, be on time and to get things done.
"In the business world I'm very appreciative of my PMA background. Reading everything, aggressive planning and strategy.
"The people of Ponca City impacted my life through their friendliness and the respect they showed for the cadets. It wasn't always easy to be away from our families and home. PMA and Ponca City was my second home and family.
"Ponca City still impacts my life today by the way you welcome us back to Ponca City every September for our reunion. By you caring and reaching out to help us preserve our PMA history. Thank you everyone in Ponca City.
"My purpose has always been to love and serve people.
